Upstairs Downstairs- I Want, I Want, I Want!

Yesterday, I was left whimpering after watching last night’s episode of Upstairs Downstairs. The costumes were wonderful, especially those worn by Lady Agnes. Ok, I’m usually left 'oohing' over most of the costumes, but last nights creations were, in my eyes….something else!
Too much loveliness... Gold, Satin, gathers, pointy bits (that's a technical term!),
 and big sleeves!
I must say, the white hat worn by Lady Agnes in the Stocking factory scene, nearly tipped me over the edge with Jealousy. (< notice the “jealousy” with the capitol J. Yes, I really mean it.) What can I say? I’m a hat fancier of the most serious kind!
Oh hat and neckline I adore you.
Plus, matters were made worse in the jealousy quarters, as I have yet to find a white/cream 30’s/40’s hat of my very own -I have been looking out and wishing for years….Even my Daddy said it was a Tupney hat!
And as for the costume in its entirety… well, all I can say is PERFECTION… oh, and I WANT IT!  This kind of outfit makes me go all gooey and dreamy. I think the combination of simple lines, and the white and navy colour scheme to be the most stylish of all. You can see for yourself that it’s an absolute dream….

Is it obvious that I like this outfit?

The second outfit of note was a splendiferous, patriotic affair if ever I did see one.(and what a peach it was too!) Never have I felt my wardrobe to be lacking as much, as after last nights episode. Why may I ask, have I not a dress like this? It’s simply not on.  I have the white sunglasses. I have the multi-functional 30’s scarf, but where’s the dress.

What a cutie-woo dress!
This also brings me onto something else that my wardrobe is lacking…. a white 30’s jacket (you might be getting the picture that I have a thing about white 30’s clothes- I think it may be something to do with the fact you always want something you can’t have… mummy usually tries to steer me well away from anything white, or pale in colour, as I’m a right mucky turnip!) I’m rather fond of the vent in the back- great for sports, or if you feel inclined to fling your arms about in and exuberant manner!

And how about these lovelies.....

I love this, though I don't think I could pull it off.
I probably would look like a right frump in it!

Detail of Blanches blouse and jacket. Nice bit of coral trimming!
Not very clear, but I think the collar on the loose coatee simply marvellous!
Green coat envy.
Lovely green dress with a wondrous scalloped collar!
I like both the green dress and Blanches blouse!

again, not very clear, but it's a lovely blouse and eye spy a nice hat!
My, I think I have indulged my costume fancies enough!  I now feel the need to lie down in a darkened room to recover…. Sometimes it gets all too much!

Tata All,
Your Tupney x
Ok, just one more......
If you are in the UK, and have missed it, then why not watch
or visit the UD webpage!!!

  1. Oh were they not the most splendid costumes last night? I dropped my knitting, pointed at the tellybox and made a "aaaaah" sound. I'll have to pop off and watch this episode again... For research purposes! xx

  2. I haven't seen any of this series yet, but these pics are making me want to ! X

  3. I watched it last night and have to agree that the costumes were stunning!! I also thought the second dress was very patriotic and I loved, loved, LOVED the green coat and dress (green being my favourite colour and all!) Will have to watch it again too! x

  4. ^ I know! Isn't the coat just the tops! Green is my favourite colour too!
I wonder what next week will bring.... might have to rummage through my wardrobe and do my own upstairs downwhat'its inspired outfits!

    Tupney x

  5. 100% agree on the hat and the neckline and that OUTFIT, OH MY GOODNESS, in general. Nice inspirational snaps, I've got to see this show sometime!

  6. I fell in love with the patriotic dress of red, white and blue last year as it has been used previously by the BBC in the program Enid in May last year.

  7. Oh these are beautiful, I hope we get to see this series in the USA...

  8. Ooh, I've been drooling over all the costumes so far this series (especially all Lady Agnes blouses) but this episode toped the lot! soo many gorgeous dresses and that toffee coloured blouse/dress is the stuff dreams are made of!

  9. I haven't watched it, but I agree with you about that green coat and the green dress, how lovely, I adore green!

I recently had an acute attack of costume envy whilst watching "The House of Eliott", they were stepping out in style in various shades of creams/whites/silvers, an outdoor outfit, not evening. And, oh, did I want them....badly!
Probably wouldn't even suit me, but I still had a tantrum in my head over not owning such garments.

  10. The costumes are amazing.... I have 2 episodes to catch up with :) x
