Another one bites the dust...

...And another one gone, and another one gone…. Another one bites the dust (Hey, Hey!) from the knitting pile!  < Please re-read this last bit and imagine Freddie Mercury on vocals and John Deacon on bass- it works sooo much better!

Yay! I've nearly finished my 1939 zipper. I say "nearly" because I still have a sleeve head to knit first. Then.... (cue a bloodcurdling scream for dramatic emphasis) I have to sew it up  and crochet some stripy boarders (eek), which, needless to say, I’m not looking forward to.

Oh and I need to find a zip (that might help seeing as it has a zip down the front!), and buy some contrasting wool for the boarders...

Tis and odd post really, but I'm super happy about nearing the end of another project and just had to tell someone about it!

Ol' grumpy chops knitting in the gardinks.

No doubt I will be back in a year or so to show off my finished zipper. ;)

A sports blouse to laze in…

(Before I start to witter on, please brace yourself for the silly photos that are about to be seen-I guess by now you expect nothing less!)

I have finally hopped out of the window into the garden to take some photos of my latest make. Yes you read that correctly- My latest make! Well, I did have a bit of help, but I’m still learning, so it’s to be expected ; )

All in all it went together fairly easily… well, apart from the front opening, but that was my lack of knowledge and once that bit was explained, I found no trouble in the rest of the sewing.

I’m rather pleased with how it’s turn out and I have plans on making some more- maybe in a novelty print and maybe a plain’un…. one for every occasion I say. (well any occasion that calls for a sports blouse!)

(I'm a little Art Deco teapot...)

Here it is with the buttons done up…
Just call me Bashful!
I look about 12 in this picture....

the back...

and with the collar open....

Looking a right cheeky young miss and one where I appear to only have one leg!

Trying to think of a way I could look sporty-ish in such a small space- yeah kneeling is all I could think of ...

Anchors Away!

Well shiver me timbers, Tupney be showing her legs!
I know, shock horror!
Well needs must, as you can’t show off a playsuit wearing woolly stockings!

***
Made by my Mammy dearest in the summer of last (what little summer we did have), before the hot weather changed to the usual grot. Bloomin’ typical is what I say- just as I get a snazzy suit to prance around the garden in, it dampens and cools!
It hasn’t even been properly worn yet, as I’m terribly fussy about where and when I wear my ‘leisure only’ appropriate clothes- I’m not like these modern misses, who seem to wear the ‘in’ playsuits anywhere and everywhere!
But anyway, that’s enough of my clothing eccentricities!

I’m not quite sure why I never got around to doing the ‘show and tell’, well, most probably laziness, but better late than never eh!

***
So said in a salty sea dogs lilt…. ''Ere you arrrre my lover, 'ere be me playsuit!’'
Oh and lots of very silly photos :-D

Doing my best Shirley Pimple….. I mean Templeimpression. ;-)

Ahoy there young jolly jack-tar!

I think I'll try this hat next...

… No, maybe this hat is best….

Yupn this is the one...
The Back...

Made from a 1930's pattern in a rather fetching blue cotton, dotted with red and navy anchors... well, anchors with hearts on!

Do you like my 30's Anchor brooch too? Twas a pressie from my big sis- couldn't be more perfect for this outfit, eh!

Hehe- I've just noticed the pink curl (I wasn't brave enough to going back to being a pinkie full time!) Blimey! These photos are really a year old!
Sincerely Yours

Upstairs Downstairs- I Want, I Want, I Want!

Yesterday, I was left whimpering after watching last night’s episode of Upstairs Downstairs. The costumes were wonderful, especially those worn by Lady Agnes. Ok, I’m usually left 'oohing' over most of the costumes, but last nights creations were, in my eyes….something else!
Too much loveliness... Gold, Satin, gathers, pointy bits (that's a technical term!),
 and big sleeves!
I must say, the white hat worn by Lady Agnes in the Stocking factory scene, nearly tipped me over the edge with Jealousy. (< notice the “jealousy” with the capitol J. Yes, I really mean it.) What can I say? I’m a hat fancier of the most serious kind!
Oh hat and neckline I adore you.
Plus, matters were made worse in the jealousy quarters, as I have yet to find a white/cream 30’s/40’s hat of my very own -I have been looking out and wishing for years….Even my Daddy said it was a Tupney hat!
And as for the costume in its entirety… well, all I can say is PERFECTION… oh, and I WANT IT!  This kind of outfit makes me go all gooey and dreamy. I think the combination of simple lines, and the white and navy colour scheme to be the most stylish of all. You can see for yourself that it’s an absolute dream….

Is it obvious that I like this outfit?

The second outfit of note was a splendiferous, patriotic affair if ever I did see one.(and what a peach it was too!) Never have I felt my wardrobe to be lacking as much, as after last nights episode. Why may I ask, have I not a dress like this? It’s simply not on.  I have the white sunglasses. I have the multi-functional 30’s scarf, but where’s the dress.

What a cutie-woo dress!
This also brings me onto something else that my wardrobe is lacking…. a white 30’s jacket (you might be getting the picture that I have a thing about white 30’s clothes- I think it may be something to do with the fact you always want something you can’t have… mummy usually tries to steer me well away from anything white, or pale in colour, as I’m a right mucky turnip!) I’m rather fond of the vent in the back- great for sports, or if you feel inclined to fling your arms about in and exuberant manner!

And how about these lovelies.....

I love this, though I don't think I could pull it off.
I probably would look like a right frump in it!

Detail of Blanches blouse and jacket. Nice bit of coral trimming!
Not very clear, but I think the collar on the loose coatee simply marvellous!
Green coat envy.
Lovely green dress with a wondrous scalloped collar!
I like both the green dress and Blanches blouse!

again, not very clear, but it's a lovely blouse and eye spy a nice hat!
My, I think I have indulged my costume fancies enough!  I now feel the need to lie down in a darkened room to recover…. Sometimes it gets all too much!

Sweet dreams are made of green pyjammies!

Here be my mummies latest finished concoction for her Tupney! A slinky, green satin pyjama number- rather dazzling me thought!!! Aren't I the lucky young miss! I’ll have to be careful not to slide off the sofa whilst wearing this 1930’s moss coloured beauty though, as I’m not accustomed to wearing such slithery fabrics! (there were a few hairy moments when taking snaps on a 2 second timer I can tell you!!!) Nevertheless it’s a joyous thing to wear, with its wide legged trews and caped top- lots of room for free movement! Just call me the Caped Crusader (nana nana nana nana.... BATMAN!)....or not!
WARNING: Lots of posy pics to follow....

The first photo I took, and a  rare 'looking at the camera' pose- funny!
Vacant expression or what!
look at how wide the trousers are!!!
one of my fave snaps- hehe!
Cheerio to all my lovely followers!

Checks and Kenneth

Just a quick outfit post to show you what I wore yesterday to go antiquing- nothing too special, but I thought I would take a snap anyway!

Oh, and have you noticed the lovely Kenneth?  (well I can’t see how you couldn’t as his photo is rather large!) He is one of my latest purchases….*sigh*  isn’t he wonderful!
a closer look at the jacket and my curly top!

Jacket- late thirties pattern
Tootal scarf
Skirt- 40’s original and one of my favourites!

Well that's all from me for now, but I'll be back soon with another of my very latest finds, and my, what a find it is... well, in my opinion it is!

A Chubby Knit!

My latest completed knitted- a chubby wonder!

I started knitting this at the beginning of December. I found the magazine on the 4th  (rather attracted by the words ‘make this coat in 12 hours!'), and got home to find that Arran wool came up too fine for the pattern! So Mamma Tupney went in search of a suitable wool baby, and she (the cat’s mother!) came home with two colour possibilities! Mind you, it wasn’t until Thursday (8th) that I finally got round to doing a tension test…. All was well, and by Thursday evening my needles were clickety- clicking, and I was knitting along at great speeds! By this time, I had also fixed in my mind  that I would like to wear this coatee at the weekend ‘do’ we were attending - so no pressure, eh!
On Friday however, I had run out of wool, (Oh, Budgies!) and the only evidence that there was ever a wool baby, was that I now had a completed back and a part front, instead of a little bundle of woolly joy! On Friday evening I was once again knitting away, surrounded by more wool babies.
I carried on knitting throughout Saturday, loosing all hope by the evening that it would be ready to wear the next day, even though I had only the collar left to knit! So with this being the case, I forced myself to get up at about half four on Sunday morning, to once again pick up the needles and knit the twisted rib collar. My determination saw the completion of the collar, but by my normal wake up time, eyes were tired and nerves were frazzled, and this meant I had little patience to sew on the ruddy collar (which actually I have only just done, as it was a real pain in the behind to sew on) Grrrr. L So close- and to think it would have been knitted in three days, if only I had all the wool to hand!

Any roads-up,  here it is… all rather lovely (if I do say so myself) and purple!
oh and 'scuse the large amount of 'me' photo's ;)
My, this stand up collar is just the ticket...
....and look, if I just un-button the lapel and button it to the other side, whistling winds
will be kept at bay!
I say! That's a rather nifty idea.... snug too!

.....Anyone for a motor in the country?

If not then I'll just wear it at Halloween and say I'm Dracula!

Cheerio from a very purple and woolly
Tuppy!
