Chewing A Piece Of Straw

Tickety's Tip Top Tunes

This Tip Top tune is one of the most recent to be added to the TicketyBoo collection.
I was initially attracted by the cracking graphics, and decided to buy it without even knowing the tune! I’m glad I bought it though, as it’s extremely pretty.
Let me know what you think, as my opinions on music can differ greatly from those of you who are more normal! ; )

So to the sheet….

And to the tune…
I chose Jack Payne's version, as I always like his arrangements…. Or rather, I like his musical arrangements! Actually, I'll have to find out who did them as I would quite like to know....

much love as always

  1. yep - love it! I really love Jack Payne. Have you heard "On Her Doorstep Last Night"? My absolute favourite of Jack's is Down Sunnyside Lane.
ps: I'm probably not the person to ask being also obsessed with 1930s and 40s music

  2. I can see why you liked the graphics, they're adorable. Nice tune, I could imagine being at a dance with this playing. One of my favourites is Al Bowlly, especially singing "The Very Thought Of You" which I could play until the grooves wore out and never tire of it. I remember my granny singing Sunnyside Lane to the dog, who used to howl along!

    1. My thoughts exactly!
I’ll have to see if I have any Al Bowlly sheet music, but I’m not sure that I have- anyway, I’ll have a look and if I have (?) it will be next weeks edition!

  3. What a charming tune. I don't think I've heard it before today, but will definitely have to play it for my step-dad now, as he grew up on a Saskatchewan farm and I know he chewed plenty of straw in his day.

  5. I was born may1939 as a child I was one day chalking on the pavement singing( Chewing a piece of Straw) a tune I must have heard on the wireless when a work- worn looking woman passing by remarked "If things carry on like this son, that`s all we will be chewing" .I remember thinking even at that tender age ,what a witty remark that was .Terrence
