A Day Out To Ramsey....

Hullo kiddies Tickety here!

My outfit-  TUT to my gasmask bag pulling down on the shoulder  of my dress- what a scruff!

Some more pictures to add to the Tickety Boo Album taken on Sunday’s trip to the 40’s weekend at Ramsey.
Apparently this year it had a new venue after relocating to an old army camp rather than the previously used airfield.  The surrounding countryside was rather picturesque and the weather was very warm and sunny- so jolly good in that respect. OK, so it was a fairly long journey to get to the event and because of that we all decided that it would probably be the first and last time we visit. (I’m sure they will live without me!)
The site was full of a mixture of stalls ranging from militaria, repro vintage, and vintage clothes…… and no I didn’t buy any clothes as most of the stalls were a bit pricey, plus I’m a skinflint and I like to think I’m getting a bargain! I did try on a lovely two toned suit but I thought it to be a bit posh looking for me as I’m naturally a bit of a scruff pot- it was rather wonderful though! Having said that I didn’t come home entirely empty handed (that just wouldn’t be on now would it!) and I did purchase something really rather special!
After the shop fuddle and a much needed coffee/lunch break we returned to the field and made our way to the camp- which in all honesty you could have left without seeing because it was tucked away out of general view by a swathe of trees and bushes. The camp itself was actually my favourite bit as it had some jolly good displays. It also had some shade and a cute dog wearing a neckerchief – you have got to love a dog in a neckerchief (yes, yes you do) so I duly named the cutest and best dressed dog, Eric!

Eric and his master.

I MUST have one of these-why do they need three of them anyway...
A Welbike- designed to fit into a 15'' drop container apparently.... well all I can say is they can drop one of these over my house any day!
By the time we reached the camp I was getting a bit sun bedraggled and all the army tents and canvas awnings looked quite inviting for a little nap- I don’t cope with sun, I’m British! Oh, and that’s another thing… how on earth do these men stand to wear heavy woollen uniforms in summer?  They must be either very passionate about re-enacting or they must just have a screw loose (or both?!). I don’t know- I take my hat off to all you woolly re-enacting men folk… talking about taking things off, I kept on taking off my belt in the hope that it would make me cooler (that’s all I could take off otherwise I’d just be in my slip and I couldn’t possibly have done that as it was a modern-ish one!!!).

I couldn't get a word out of  this chap, maybe it was just me...
Anyhoo,….  I’m certain we missed out some displays, but the ones we did see were very nicely done- my favourite being the CC41 display- oh, the clothes, the clothes! Once I had taken a zillion photos of the pretty things (most of which are blurred) we made our way to see some of the closing parade thingy.  I didn’t see it all because Pappy wanted to take photos of a cars rear end- he then led the way to the ‘Ramsey Purchase’ so he is excused….. this time!

I want, I want, I want..... the red stripe dress in the middle..... please!

Scrumptious stocking box....
notice the nice rug its on.... sigh.

Something else I wouldn't mind looking after....

I want the rug!

My future car- Standard Flying 8 (Daddy, pretty please!)... the fact that I hate driving and can't drive is a (morris) minor issue... well, I just need to find a chauffeur -anybody interested?

Getting the Coach back....
I wanted to commandeer this Green lovely so I could start running vintage coach tours-(something I have been thinking about for a while now)  I would need a driver  though (again anybody interested)... Just think, I could have a uniform with a hat!
Well that’s about it….
Have another post to write up about the ‘Ramsey purchase’

The Events of a Tickety Boo Sunday...

Hullo Kiddies!

What’s been happening in Tupneyville? (Ta Paddy for that one!)
Well, I thankfully managed to make up for last weeks missed flea fair, which was a devastating affair indeed as I never miss a flea….well, apart from when I’m on Holiday- I will even venture to one when I’m quite, quite ill, but the migraine overruled this time and it saw me well and truly laid up in bed- gah, nasty things.  Anyway I made this one, so all is dandy… smaller in size it may have been but quality prevailed, and I saw lots of things to covert and unfortunately lots of things I had to leave behind. Luckily for me my Burglar Bill swag bag was still filled with many treasures- Knitting patterns for one (I’m always a happy bunny if I find some knitting patterns!), a preserves pot with a green plastic inner to add to my growing collection of similar tat, a rug maker, a rather limp, saggy swimsuit that needs re shearing and a 30’s novelty oddity (more on that in another post!).

Upton House from the rear!

Anywhoo, once all the shopping possibilities were exhausted at the flea, the Tickety clan ventured to a Millionaires House Party! 1937 was the year and Upton House and Gardens was the destination … well in my head I had decided upon the year of ’37, and thats the date I printed when the butler asked us to sign the guest book!
I went with full intentions to find myself a millionaire, but the event was sadly lacking in the eligible bachelor with a reasonable bank account balance department- I checked every room possible- even the wonderful silver bathing room,  and not to mention the gardens- however beautiful they may have been they saw no presence of such a chappy… a bit off don’t you think as the event details stated it was a Millionaires House party… so....pray tell me where were the Millionaires?

I shall now stop my chatter and leave you with the pictures....

Different parts of the Garden...
Gardens designed by Lady Bearsted and Kitty Lloyd Jones.

Little Fishes in the Pond-y thing!

Some lovely bits n bobs on display- I LOVE the 20's dress bottom right!

The most beautiful embroidered 30's gown- I could have whipped off with this one- I'm sure it would have fitted too!

The wonder bathroom with Aluminum leaf walls... yes silver walls and was actually more expensive than real silver leaf!
the most modern/ art deco room in the entire house... a real marvel! Not so sure on the loo though...

Anyone for tennis? Serious trunk envy too...

one of Lady Bearsted's bills from Elizabeth Arden! It looked as if she was quite into her treatments and make up!

A Radiogram and a half in the bedroom... not sure if it would house my collection of 78's though!!!

A lovely Airy/ light kitchen- I even got to try a jam tart- yumm.
An enviable array of green and cream ware (Bottom left) they even had my salter scales!
A lovely stocked larder with packaging, all of which I could quite happily have left with (bottom right). A table prepared with treats for dinner.

Showing bits from the Shell Transport and trading company's  collection at Upton House...I adore the middle image- how cute!
Upton house was bought by Walter Bearsted, 2nd Viscount Bearsted in 1927. ...Marcus Samuel (Walters father)  made his fortune through  'Shell'- the family business!
The shell logo came from the fact that the founder started selling shell covered trinket boxes!

Well folks I must go as I have to get ready for tomorrows trip to the beach- I can't wait!
now, where's me bucket and spade....

Airshow Antics

Hullo there- long time no wittering.
Well me lovelies, it was my Grandpa pa’s birthday yesterday so guess what (You will never guess after reading the title!!!) on Saturday we went to an airshow. It was wondrous, if not a little on the windy/rainy/ cold side. But thankfully the aircraft on show made up entirely for the foul weather tendencies.
The day was full of lovely rumblie noises from the jets ( and no, it wasn't my tummy making itself heard at lunchtime!) and of course aircraft of all shapes, sizes and eras, while the airfield saw a littering of waterproofed clad people(including myself- but mine was flowery and matched impeccably with my burgandy 40's skirt!), airforce blue berets, and the country set in their lovely tweeds and Barbours. There were retail opportunities too- but no old junk (blah, so I wasn’t interested), classic cars, a little ww2 section with jeeps (squeeeeeeeeal!), fun fair rides (no thank you) and the most upmarket portaloos I have ever seen- none of those horrific blue plastic boxes that I have a severe aversion towards- these ones had lights, proper basins(ooow arh). Mind you, I can’t tell you about the cubicles as I didn’t make use, but I saw enough to be impressed!!! Well nuff said about that me thinks, back onto the planes…..

So what did we see? …. A big noisy one, a yellow one, a really pretty coloured fast one, a pretty little thing that was used throughout ww2- the elliptical winged one- oh darn it, what is it called !!! Hehe, don’t worry I know a little more about planes than that! Not much more mind you, so I apologise in advance as you might find this annoying
a)      if you are not a fan of aircraft, and
b)      if you are a fan of aircraft- you will cringe at how basic my knowledge is!
To be honest I don’t marvel at the engineering side of the craft- well I do, as it does hold a little interest within me- what I mean is when it gets too technical I switch off. I judge an aircraft purely buy its appearance (I’m such a girl), how it can be manoeuvred, if it makes a pleasing noise or not (I'm mad), and what connection it has to history and to certain people (mainly the dashing RAF pilots of ww2 or the extremely glamorous ATA girls! Not forgetting the groundcrew and the guys and gals who built and maintained them!) Usually if I enjoy watching it,  and it makes my hairs stand up on the back of my neck or makes me a little teary- it’s a good’un!

So to the pictures I took or in some cases I didn't take... if only they would stop for me to take a decent picture!!!

Didn't get a good pic of this Hawker Hunter
Designed By Sydney Camm (Sir)...

... the same dude (hehe) who designed  the Hawker Hurricane-'the backbone of the Battle of Britain'. (Don’t thump me spitfire fanciers.) It says in the program that he also designed the Hawker Typhoon, Hawker Tempest, and the Hawker Sea Fury- to name but a few- a right clever little Mr, wasn't he!

The Folland (Hawker Siddeley) Gnat.

Supermarine Spitfire. BBMF

BBMF Dakota- in its new colours with D Day stripes!

One of the Black Cats (Westland Lynx- Royal Navy) landing on my Pa's Umbrella!

Meteor NF11...
(this flew with a De Havilland Venom)

... the Gloster Meteor (the first British Jet Fighter) entered service with the RAF in June 1944 and was used to intercept the unmanned German jet missiles- the V-1 flying bombs.  It was later used for ground attack and armed reconnaissance. This one is a Armstrong-Whitworth Night Fighter 11- flight tests started in 1949.
This was probably Grandpa pa's favourite aircraft of the show as he worked on it when he worked for the Gloster Aircraft company. I'm not sure what he did- I will have to ask- maybe it's a future post!
And last but by no means least....
The VULCAN

A truly amazing sight and sound to behold- The Avro Vulcan B2 XH558.
I might add the world's only flying example!

Righty-ho, I fear you may have given up on me by now- sorry. :(
Obviously there were others too but even I’m getting fed up now with putting in the pictures- grrr.

I shall endeavour to return with something pretty and vintage very soon.-Maybe a picture or two of my new knitteds? A Mystic Mug, or even some of mine and Ma's 'Tickety Boo' finds? Decisions, Decisions!

Cheerio All.
