Oh no! Not another RAF Friday!

Hullo Kiddies!
Today I bring to you my latest acquisition. It’s a real corker- obviously; otherwise I wouldn’t have come home with it! (hehe, because we all know I have impeccable taste…. *cough*!!!). I splashed out with the Christmas dosh. I probably spent more than I should have on it, but it was just too super to leave behind. Anyway, that’s what Christmas money is for, right? It’s there to splash out on the special things that you really desire, and not the mundane everyday purchases that usually deplete the pennies in our pockets! Well that's my thought on the matter. No doubt I would feel a little different if I had bills to pay. ;)
Anyroad, I have now gone way off course- back to the purchase….

Fancy a look?
I have decided to take loads of close-ups and leave you guessing what it actually is until the last snap, then all will become clear!

Ooh, so it's embroidered....

...Hmm, a crown... could it be a Coronation cracker or another military crest to add to the collection (remember the RAF crest mammy found?)…

...Oh, so it has the words ‘Peace’ and ‘Victory’ embroidered too- must be wartime related then... First World War? Or perhaps the second???

..."War Ended.", definitely war related then!

...I say, is that the RAF ensign I see top right….

...3rd September, 1939.
Ahh, its from WW2 then.  Oh and look at the Wings! I know someone who has a thing about those ;) ....

...Starting to take shape but I think something is missing....

.....

,,,,,

.....

... EEEK! A dashing airmen! Everything can be improved/ enhanced with the addition of an airman- especially if he has a nice haircut like the one above!

Sanzzy, eh?

♥♥♥ And here it is in all its glory! ♥♥♥
Such a gloriously romantic piece of history, don't you think? I wonder who made it, and I wonder who the young chap is? Just things I will never know I guess. :(
I can't tell you who worked it, and I can't tell you if he survived the war or not , but one thing I can tell you is that whoever made this must have been so proud and loved this chap very much. ♥
Welcome to the family, young man. Hope you like your new home and guardian! Don't worry old bean, I'll get you a new frame with glass in it as soon as possible! ;)

Here's to a wonderful weekend,

Your Tupney

Daddy’s in the R.A.F

Today’s R.A.F Friday came into my possession on three separate occasions.
You see, I have a favourite dealer that I just cannot pass without flicking through the box of old piccies  (me and old photo's- oh I get lost in them!), but it has come to my attention that the photos must get filtered, so groups and ‘familiar faces’ pop up on each visit! In this instance, the photos have appeared a bit like an unfolding story, with a new family member appearing on the scene each time. It has taken me several moths to reunite this darling family....
1.
Finding 'Daddy'...

Naturally I gravitate towards dashing airmen, and thought I had found the crown jewels when I spied these two!

2.
Mummy and Baby makes three...

When I found this snap, I rather excitingly announced to myself, "This must be Mummy! It's the same rocky whatsit in the background" and sure enough it was!
I'm even beginning to think that this may be their garden... :o

We three...
How cute? Mummy is perfect, Daddy has the best curly top EVER and Baby is cute but hilarious!

Mummy is such a beauty- love her turban and coat- those lapels!
And what about ole grumpy chops? I told you. Hilarious!

One stylish mode of transport parked up near the rocky whatsit,
and another of Mammy and her babbie chick (again, pulling a face!).

3.
Then along came Brother and Grandma too...
The same babbie chick waving at Daddy?

Oh look! Little babbie is all grown up! Can't see what she is clutching though, but she is wearing a lovely little Fair Isle cardigan.... And the little chap in the natty romper is the newest addition to the clan!

Oh and we mustn't forget Grannie! How she looks like the little chap- not sure is she's the Ma of Mummy or Daddy though- thoughts?

So there you are chums, a little play in three acts!
Cute family, eh?
You never know, more pictures might appear for me to add to the album, but we shall see...

Cheerio for now and
all the best for the weekend

A Hankie For A Sweetheart...

(Not that I’m saying I’m a sweetheart… though, originally it would have belonged to one!)

Hello and welcome to this week’s RAF Friday!
First of all, I must, must thank the lovely Jo,( who blogs over at Objects of My Affection) for picking up this treasure for me. I’m over the moon with my new hankie and I must say the boys are rather pleased with it too (my little RAF dolly chaps). Actually, they can be found snuggled up in my cabinet underneath their new bedspread right at this very minute! Yes, I’m crackers, but don’t tell anyone hey! ;)
Anyway, it is a most welcome addition to my collection, as I had been on the look out for one for quite a while- I'm so extremely lucky!

♥♥♥
So to the pics....

The cotton trimming on the hankie is so incredibly sweet!

^ I wonder if Tyrone gave Betty a hankie like this in the film? ;)
Nah, probably not- he was a bit of a stinker in it... lovable, but a stinker nonetheless!

^hehe, that is one unimpressed Airman... Ah well!

Oh look how it matches my little powder compact!
♥♥♥

So "Thank you" once again to Jo... I just loves it I do!

Well, that's enough from me...
Have a very merry weekend all.

(Oh and I haven't made up my mind about next week's addition yet. So far it's a toss up between some photos and a piece of jewellery- so stay tuned to find out next Friday!)

Reflection of a Sweetheart.

Hullo, it’s me again!
I’m back with the latest edition of RAF Friday…. No, really?! Kind of obvious I guess!
Anyway, a couple of weekends back, I was having a rather unsuccessful shufty around an antiques fair. I’m pretty sure we, mammy and I, had been there well over an hour before I found my first purchase…. How awful, eh? I had nearly given up hope, but then I came across a stall with several things to tickle my fancy!

The first thing to catch my wonky eye was a tea cosy- a purple fluffy affair- and I duly paid the lady before wandering a little further up the same stall to the sparkly bits….I looked down and there it was…Another RAF compact (remember I already own one)... My heart went all a flutter as it tapped danced around the table (the compact, not me!), singing out as he went along, “Buy me! You need me! I will rid your nose of shine and I will make you smile every time you look upon me…. So bloomin’ buy me woman!”.

Ahhh, my little R.A.F. beauty.....

Well anyway, I did my usual “should I, shouldn’t I?” before I whipped out the dosh and paid the lady. I think she was pretty pleased I bought it (really she was!),  exclaiming joyfully “oh, you always buy something from me…”! Well I had to buy it then- can’t disappoint my people- hahah! :P

Dinky, slim lined and well, compact!

I was rather pleased with it being a Gwenda "Tap Flap". The nifty spring loaded mechanism means you don't need a sifter, so it's less messy than the other loose powder compacts. Actually, in the days before Pappy had found me my current RAF compact, I used to use a "Tap Flap" every day! I must say that they are fab little compacts....

Here's a creepy hand snap (don't think hand modelling is for me!), demonstrating that a swift tap in the centre will release just enough powder to dab on ones shiny hooter! Posh eh!

Little Dolly Deco Tap-flap meet Mr Tap-flap- he's in the RAF don't you know!

For ages, well two weeks, I've been trying to work out what my super new compact reminded me of, and then I suddenly remembered......

It's like the beautiful tiles in one of the bathrooms at Eltham Palace!

I'm almost certain that I will now be powdering my nose and making sure mt lipstick hasn't worn off more often!

Anyroad, here's to a wonderful and sunny weekend...

All the best,

A Lucky Strike!

A pic taken on the day to show my happiness!
Back in January I picked up today's R.A.F treasure- A lucky strike indeed! This darling little ciggie case came from one of my favourite dealers, and even though I can't stand the whole smoking malarkey (horrid stuff), I just couldn't leave it behind. It must have been magnetic or something, because once I had it in my hand there was no way it was leaving it again until the case was safely at home in my possession! I'm very surprised that I didn't dilly dally over the price (which actually was very reasonable), but then again, what's inside the ciggie case is priceless in my eyes!

Nothing extraordinary about this cushioned shaped case really- has a lovely feel to it, though, and it fits nicely in your hand. I can just imagine the raffy chap reaching to his pocket for this case... perhaps whilst leaning jauntily against a hut and wearing a careworn frown and a slightly dishevelled curly hairdo.... let's call him Rex too! Oooh no, Laurie....no, Rex... Oh it doesn't matter, he's not real!

Once I've replaced the elastic I'm thinking of using it as a card case just because I want to show it off- I'll be giving everyone cards. OK, I won't as I don't have a card, but if I did naturally I would!

Anyway, do you want to see what's inside? Yes of course you do...

Ta daaaaaa- tis a name and date *squeal* scratched into it!

FL. OFF. FARRIMOND. 1942

How marvellous eh! I wonder what became of him?

So, here's to you Mr Farrimond- thank you for scratching your name in your ciggie case!
♥♥♥♥♥

Have a wonderful weekend chums!
